User Guide – first steps with the IPI Client (for PCs without internal Bluetooth)

First Steps with the IPI Client

IPI Dongle can work in two modes:

  1. Usual Bluetooth Adapter (allows you to use IPI Client in internal Bluetooth mode)

  2. IPI Driver (for more flexibility of proximity settings and Tap&Go Windows Login)

Use IPI Dongle in Bluetooth adapter mode

In this mode, Windows can use its usual driver for Bluetooth and you can connect any Bluetooth devices as usual in Windows Bluetooth Settings page.

  1. Install IPI Dongle according to this instruction.

  2. Follow guide for internal Bluetooth.

Use IPI Dongle in IPI driver mode

In this case, IPI own driver for the Bluetooth dongle is used and if your PC do not have internal Bluetooth you cannot connect any Bluetooth Devices as usual on the Windows Bluetooth Settings page.

Step 0: Installing the IPI Client

We assume that

Your Administrator:

- installed IPI Client on your computer

- specified the server address in the Client's settings

- added account to unlock your PC

You:

- set up IPI Key operation on an unlocked PC

If not, please Download the Client App for Windows and install it.

Step 1: Remove isolating material from the Key's housing

Open IPI Key's housing and remove white plastic.

Step 2: Update the IPI Key firmware

Insert the IPI Dongle into the USB-port.

Go through the steps to update the firmware of your IPI Key to the latest version using Quick Update mode.

Step 3: Launch the IPI Client

After installing the IPI Client App on your Windows computer, you will see the icon in the taskbar. Click on it and launch the application.

Step 4: Press the button on the IPI key

To enable the IPI key, you must press the button.

Possible issues: The IPI key does not turn on - replace or recharge the battery. You have already activated the IPI key, you can skip this step.

Step 5: Check indicators

After launching the IPI Client, you will see a screen:

Possible issues: Dongle indicator is red - try pulling out and reinserting the dongle or choose another USB-port. The Server indicator is red - please follow this instruction. The Server indicator is yellow - ask your administrator to approve your workstation.

Step 6: Tap on the Dongle with the IPI Key

You need to touch dongle with the IPI Key for 1 or 2 seconds.

Step 7: Confirm pairing (one-time procedure)

During the first connection of the IPI Key to the computer, it is necessary to go through the pairing (bonding) procedure: press the button that blinks green.

The next time you connect this IPI Key to this computer, this procedure is not required.

Possible issues: Didn't press the button in time - You have to press the button when the button is flashing green. There are three attempts to confirm the bonding by pressing the button; during each attempt, the key will flash green. If you missed this moment and did not press, then after three attempts, the key stops flashing green, and you need to tap the dongle again.

Step 8: Enter activation code (one-time procedure)

Concurrently with the IPI Key, the administrator should give you an activation code. It can be sent in an e-mail or communicated in another way. Enter this 6-digit numeric code in the activation code field and click Confirm.

Possible issues:

Entered an incorrect code - you have three attempts to enter a code. If all of them were incorrect, then the IPI key will be blocked, and you need to contact the administrator.

The input window disappeared - you need to enter the activation code at a particular period; if you did not do this, the window disappears, and you need to tap the dongle again.

Step 9: Request access to the password manager (optional)

After you go through the activation procedure, you will see such a screen (if your administrator set the access profile).

You see the Vault Settings section, but the yellow lock and red indicators show that the IPI key storage has not been loaded yet.

You need to click on the lock icon and follow the screen guide.

Step 10: Get access to the password manager

Now you can access the accounts which administrator adds for you to the IPI key. You can't change or see passwords; you can only use them. The Cloud icon indicates such accounts.

Do this step only if you already have an account to unlock your PC on your IPI key.

Now you are ready to try how you can unlock your PC with IPI key. Please, lock your workstation, for example, by pressing Win+L, you will see such a screen.
